Whilst working with my dear friend Viv, he gave me some cooking apples from his back garden (i think) for me to cook with. I am now addicted to stewed apples with custard, nutmeg and ground ginger. IT'S SO GOOD! It's a very basic dish but there's something about that feels very traditional about it, in a shepherds pie sense. It's a good time to get into too as a think summer has finally ended (you never can tell in England whether its even arrived in the first place). Tis the season to make pies and stews and maybe the odd lasagne. Good warm grub.
This evening I made an apple cake with my mum. Nigel Slater's 'English Apple Cake' recipe i believe. Very nice and was a very nice evening spent with my mum. Would of posted a photo but i ate it all before i got the chance.
